Welcome to Nura Gili |

Nura Gili means something different to everyone. To the Indigenous students who begin their academic lives here at UNSW, Nura Gili can mean support, guidance and sanctuary. To the Indigenous staff placed within the unit, and all around campus, Nura Gili can mean family, creativity and achievement. To the many high school students who partake in our winter and schools and preparatory programs, Nura Gili can mean opportunity, friendship and prospect. To all though, Nura Gili is a place where people from all over can come together, meet, share ideas, gain inspiration, yarn, laugh and find motivation to discover and move into new and exciting pathways. I have been involved in Nura Gili and Indigenous Programs at UNSW for over ten years and this community spirit is most definitely at the centre of everything we do. Nura Gili is a place made up of the cultures and unique experiences of everyone involved, including those from our non-Indigenous colleagues and students. It gives me great pride to say that our students and staff join a team much like a family. Our programs are creative and different. Our style is unique and personal. Our students achieve great things on their pathway to graduation and beyond. |

All at Nura Gili recognises the importance of the land which we gather upon as Gadigal land, and we also recognise that the words “Nura Gili” are Gadigal words meaning fire place – and the connection to the Gadigal campsite unearthed on the grounds of the Prince Of Wales Hospital. In recognition of the traditional custodians of the land beneath and a part of Nura Gili and UNSW, and on behalf of the staff and students of Nura Gili and the Indigenous Community of UNSW, we invite you to be a part of the Nura Gili community and to take part alongside us in the opportunities open to you in tertiary education.
